Even though Ferrari has been somewhat on the rise, the tifosi have been uneasy, especially with the leadership of Frenchman Fred Vasseur.

Promoted to team principal after the departure of Mattia Binotto (who is now at Kick Sauber, soon to be Audi), Vasseur did engineer the signing of Lewis Hamilton. But the first year of the pairing has had something of a rocky start.

The Scuderia finished third in the constructors’ championship in Vasseur’s first year and second last year, and is on track to finish second behind McLaren this year. That appeared to be enough to retain him as the team principal in Maranello.

Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has signed a multi-year extension, ending speculation about his future.

Vasseur’s job had been under scrutiny for a while, with some media outlets in Italy reporting last month he was set to be sacked at the end of the season due to poor results.

Ferrari ended any doubts on Thursday by confirming a new deal, saying the extension reflected a “determination to build on the foundations laid so far” under his leadership.

Although F1 deals rarely specify contract lengths the team confirmed it was a “multiple-year,” which should take him beyond 2026.

The question now is can Ferrari get the car up to speed?

Hamilton, since arriving, has done nothing but decry the performance over the past year, and Ferrari has officially shifted focus from the 2025 car to 2026.

Given the expectations of the tifosi, while second place might be good for much of the field, it still falls short of the hopes and dreams in the county of Italy.
